Caught one decent fish in the last Heartland Anglers tournament. Conditions were tough for us as we only could weigh 2 fish. This one came on a jig in about 10 ft. of water.

High School State Championship

Took a few kids down to Dayton to fish the High School State Championship. TBF put on an outstanding tournament for the kids. Several Pros came to the weigh-in, along with a great fishing legend "Larry Nixon". I was really proud of all my kids. Even though they didn't win, we all had a great time. I was very surprised to see the sportsmanship between the schools and how excited they all were watching their peers weigh in fish. Everyone was pretty much cheering for everyone.

Started out the day taking my two straight to Sale Creek. They caught several fish, but none were keepers. After that, they wanted to flip boat docks.... No takers. Then we ran up river and started targeting main channel and secondary points. Still no takers. Finally after a brutal day of no keepers, we decided to head back to Dayton. All in all it was a great day on the water. The kids seemed to be having fun all day. They would cast across each other and get all tangled up, but they were still having a blast. I even had to do surgery about 1 o'clock. I had one kid re-tie a lure and the other one heaved out a crank to snag both trebles in his partners back! OUCH! after about 10 minutes... I had him back up and fishing. What a tough kid! The other Rockwood team did manage to catch one keeper and weigh it in. As you can tell from the pic, they were very excited to be on the stage and weigh that fish. Like I said earlier, I am very proud of all the kids that fished this tournament. And even more proud of the adults who captained their boats and took the time outta their day for these kids. Congrats to Soddy Daisy High School on their win, and congrats to all of the other kids who participated in this tournament.

Fished out of Rockwood Sunday morning in the Heartland Anglers tournament directed by Rusty Collier. They do a great job running the tournament. There was a little over 25 boats this week. Started out shallow cranking and lost a mule right at the boat. Found a couple of smaller keepers then went on to flip some boat docks. The very first dock I flipped, I pulled this hog out. It was an intense hook set. The fish went crazy under the dock but I managed to pull it out and land it. With the water warming up, there should be some nice sacks weighed in this coming weekend. Remember... Jerk, when they bite!

Chickamauga Hog

I found this pic on the Chattanooga Fishing Forum. I think this guy fishes for the University of Tennessee Bass Team. It weighed 9.14. Just for reference the smaller fish weighed 4.2 on digital scales. Total PIG! Just wanted to show this stud on my blog. Congrats 8ball on the nice catch, and thanks for the report on the forum.

Caught some nice ones yesterday on the bar. Several came on jigs, while the better fish came on shallow cranks. Fish were in 1-4 ft of water, but were very close to deeper water. (Secondary Points) Water temp was warmer than the air temp. Water was around 55 degrees while the outside temp was around 50. The bar is heating up and there should be some hogs caught in the next couple of days. Trips Available.

Practice for Wal-mart BFL Voluteer Division

Went out Saturday to pre-fish for the BFL. Water temps were 50-55 degrees. Caught several LM shallow on traps and red eye shads. Found some SM suspended on a rocky main channel point and hooked into a nice 5 lber. I hope things stay the same for the weekend tournament. If anyone has any Watts Bar fishing reports.... please post!

Couldn't get in touch with anyone fishing the tournament until it was too late. Spun a hub early Saturday morning and never made it to the weigh in. Caught some very nice quality fish. Probably enough to win or come in second but sh*t happens I guess. I'm still pretty sore over it but I guess things like this are going to happen. Anyway, here are some pics.

I'm heading down to Guntersville Friday to fish the CFF #1 on Saturday out of Jackson County Park. I am super excited. Should be a really fun trip. I'm fishing with a good friend of mine, Jamie Smith from Harriman , TN. I can't wait to hook into one of those Lake Gunny Hole hogs! Stayed tuned next week for pictures of the event. Went down on Friday and practiced for a little while and only caught one. On Saturday the bite was really slow. It was a three fish tournament. Landon and I could only manage to get 2 to the boat. One was this hog. It weighed 6.61, and was good enough for second big fish. Water temp was around 45-48 degrees. Came in 6th place with 10 1/2 pounds.

It was freezing cold Sunday morning, but I decided to go ahead and fish the Sunday morning dogfight out of Caney Creek from 7:30-1. When the sun came out the fish started biting like crazy. I weighed in a 3 fish limit that was 12.80! Here is a pic of me with 2 of my fish. I also took a picture of my Dad with the fish.

Went out for 3 hours on Sunday morning... and man were they biting! We caught 7 keepers in less than 3 hours. In the first 15 minutes of fishing, Dad hooked into this nice slab, and the next cast he hooked another good keeper. Here are the pics of the first two we caught. Keep it up pops!

Justin took his wife on a little boat ride this weekend and decided to fish for a bit. After a few casts... he calls for the net. His wife says... are you sure you have a good one, just reel it in and lift it over the side. Again.. he says... GET THE NET! By this time she knew he wasn't playin around. He got it up to the boat and Ashley dipped it. WOW, she said. That thing is huge! Ended up being a little over 9 pounds. Congrats ol boy!

5.2lb Spot!

My friend Paul has been working on a dock on Center Hill Lake. During his lunch time he takes a little time to wet his line while he is out there. With luck on his side, Paul caught this nice 5.2 lb spot off of his clients new dock. He caught it on a chartreuse grub in about 10ft of water. This is one of the nicest spots I have ever seen. Nice catch Rooster!

Took my buddy out Saturday and tried our luck in the heat. Pulled up just outside of Rockwood slew and waited on some friends of ours to meet up with us. Jamie called for a big plug so I handed him one. On the second cast... he lucked up and hooked into this nice slab. We caught about 5 fish in less than 15 minutes. Nice catch O'l boy! Keep it up and we might have to take some of that offering money! LOL

Latest Fishing Trips

Fished in a benefit tournament Saturday with my father out of Watts Bar Dam. We finished 4th with 17.48 and won big fish with a 6.02 LM. Tuesday night we fished a 3 fish tourney out of Hornsby Hollow and came in 3rd with 9.09. Last night, at the Thursday Night wildcat out of Rockwood, we won big fish with a 3.15 LM. I have been catching a few in deeper water off of secondary and main channel drops or humps. The fish are moving up and down to feed on these drops and you just have to be there when they are feeding and you will catch a few. DD-22 and C-rigs have been working the best for me. Sorry but no pics. It's hard to take pics while out competing in a tournament.

LeRoy (Dad), and I went out today around 11. Caught a few fish shallow, but nothing to really brag about. Shallow water was around 52 degrees. Moved out around some main channel points and Dad caught this nice 5lb smallmouth on a jerkbait. It was 21 inches long. Water temp was 50.5 degrees on the main channel part that we were fishing. Caught 2 other non keeper smallies, and man they are fun to catch! Here is a pic of the 5lb. smallmouth that Dad caught. Other than this, we didn't really catch any other quality fish. Still was a good time to watch my dad catch a nice fish! Way to go Pop!

I fished the CBA on Chickamauga Lake this weekend, and boy was I impressed with the way the tournamnet was ran. They have a ton of prizes and manufacturer incentives for the teams that fish this trail. My best friend in college, Justin Medley, is the Vice-president of this organization. He is the guy in the red tournament shirt weighing in the fish. Good job on the tournament Justin, I can't wait untill the next one!

Fished Chickamauga this weekend at the 1st CBA event of the year. There was some huge bags weighed in. It took 26.20 to win and 16lbs. to get a check. I did manage to catch a 6 1/2lber tho! This picture gives my fish no justice because my partner was tring to hold the fish up infront of me since I caught it. It was raining and this is the only pic we have of it. It was full of eggs, and very exciting to catch. Thanks for putting me on a nice one Rudy!

Well... when its to hot to even cast, you can always crank up the big motor and troll around some of the main channel drops in hopes of catching a big stripper or even a big large mouth. Paul didn't think we would catch a thing, but by the time he cracked open another cold unit... he hooked into this beast! I guess trolling does work pretty good. I guess that's why you can't do it in tournaments. But it sure is fun when you hook one of these! Nice small mouth o'l boy!

Well, I guess we have all done this before... but this time I actually got it on camera! Tony threw his lure in too close to the bank and it ended up in some weeds. He had to get out of the boat and walk down the bank to get his lure back. FUNNY! Wish you all could have been there to watch me give Tony a hard time as he patiently untangled his lure and got back into the boat. Better luck next time buddy!

Hogs in March

Well... we finally hooked into some hogs. This is one of the best times of the year to catch them big boys! Dad had been fishing all day & I joined him when I got off work. Fished some areas we thought would be holding a fish or two and look what we found. My o'l man still knows how to catch them big ones. I wish these had came on a tournament day.

Yesterday... Rooster and I went out on the Bar to see if our brush piles were holding any fish. Oh yea! LP has hooked up again! We caught 7 keepers, with the best 5 weighing about 12-14 pounds. This is LP's lunker for the day! lol
